South Bombay sub-city is the southernmost precinct of Mumbai City. It cover areas  from Colaba to Mahim and houses the city's main business localities that makes it the wealthiest urban precinct in India. Property prices in South Mumbai are highest in India and among the highest in the world. The area shares boundary on the east by Mumbai Harbour and on the west by the Arabian Sea. Notable areas include Colaba, Fort, Nariman Point, Malabar Hill, and Cuffe Parade. These areas are known for their upscale residential properties, upscale shopping districts, and panoramic views of the Arabian Sea.

South Bombay sub-city covers entire area from Sion to Bandra fort till Colaba or Navi Nagar. This sub-city comprise of areas like Dadar, Wadala, Parel, Worli, Sewri, Kamathipura, Byculla, Girgaun Chowpatty, Crawford Market, etc. South Bombay has become a less congested place due to the creation of Bandra -Worli Sea Link and ban on auto-rickshaw which has also facilitated quicker transport between people residing in the suburbs and the corporate offices in South Bomaby. Its primary business areas are the Fort, Nariman Point, Ballard estate and more recently Lower Parel.

History Of South Bombay

South Bombay has some of the oldest parts of the city. When seven islands were joined to form Mumbai then one of those was called Bombay where the British started building the docks and the city. They built Fort St. George, which no longer exists, but the area is still called "Fort"  that contains many corporate offices and most of the administrative offices of the city and State Governments.

This sub-city also contains  the new areas like Nariman Point which was built on a reclaimed land between the 1940s and the 70s. This is Bombay's downtown, where the offices of India's topmost corporate houses are located.
