Ghaziabad, formerly known as Ghaziuddinnagar, is a city, situated in the Northwestern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and a part of the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). Situated in the mid of Ganga-Yamuna Doab,c


The city has two major divisions separated by Hindon River, namely:

  • Trans-Hindon on the west 
  • Cis-Hindon on the east

It is located extremely close to the Hindon River, surrounded by historic areas like Meerut in the north, Bulandshahar and Gautam Budh Nagar in the south, and Delhi in the southwest.


Being a major city in the western state of Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad city serves as an administrative headquarters of Ghaziabad district.

History Of Ghaziabad

The city of Ghaziabad was established in 1740 A.D. by Ghazi-ud-Din and named it as “Ghaziuddinnagar”, which was shortened to its present form, i.e. “Ghaziabad” with the opening of the Railways in 1864.


Ghaziabad, along with Meerut and Bulandshahar, remained one of the three Munsifs of the District, under the Meerut Civil Judgeship during most periods of the British Raj.The city was associated with the Indian independence movement from the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

Facilities

Road Connectivity:

It is well connected by road from all sides to other major cities and helps several people to commute daily to the surrounding areas like Noida, Delhi, Meerut, Bulandshahar, Haridwar and Saharanpur. The city is located on the famed Grand Trunk Road, 19km east of Delhi.

India's widest expressway Delhi-Meerut Expressway passes through the city of Ghaziabad and is acting as a key driver for real estate along NH-24.

Railway Connectivity:

The city has its own railway junction known as Ghaziabad railway station, connecting number of nearby districts and /indian cities. Some of the major routes that connects Ghaziabad to other parts of the country includes: Kanpur Central, Allahabad Jn and New Delhi. The city is well linked with Delhi and other neighbouring cities through fast moving local trains called EMU's.

Metro Connectivity:

The Delhi Metro extends to regions surrounding Ghaziabad. The plan to build the Ghaziabad Metro was conceived in 2014, when the GDA and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC) signed an agreement for the new infrastructure development.

The route is covered under Phase-III expansion of the Delhi Metro and have following stoppages:
  • Dilshad Garden
  • Shahid Nagar
  • Rajbagh
  • Shyam Park
  • Mohan Nagar
  • Arthala 
  • New Bus Adda


Bus Connectivity:

Besides the Delhi Metro, the city's citizens can use the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses to commute within the city. There are two major Bus Stands in the city.

Airport Connectivity:

The city lies at a distance of about 45km from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.

The Government has recently converted the Hindon Air Force Base into a small domestic airport, second in the NCR to handle domestic passengers based in Western Uttar Pradesh.

The first set of flights from Hindon, Ghaziabad under "Ude desk ka aam nagrik"-II RCS scheme will include the routes:
  • Lucknow-Hindon-Kolkata-Jorhat
  • Hindon-Bhopal-Ozar (Nashik)
  • Hindon-Jaisalmer-Udaipur
  • Hindon-Gorakpur-Allahabad
  • Hindon-Allahabad-Kolkata
  • Hindon-Kannur
  • Ozar(Nashik)-Hindon
Education:

It is also an important educational centre of western Uttar Pradesh that hosts reputed school, colleges and institutes offering education in diverse fields such as humanities, science, engineering and management, Dental to name a few.

Infrastructure:

The infrastructure in the city is strong and the development activities are almost always in full swing, primarily, because of the city's proximity to the national capital. The vast areas of cheaps land available in the city for both residential and commercial development are also a strong encouragement for building infrastructure. The city's development authorities have focused their attention on developing the physica; and soical infrastructure in the city.
