It is located extremely close to the Hindon River, surrounded by historic areas like Meerut in the north, Bulandshahar and Gautam Budh Nagar in the south, and Delhi in the southwest.
Being a major city in the western state of Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad city serves as an administrative headquarters of Ghaziabad district.
Ghaziabad is a part of the satellite towns that have grown importance in the last 2 decades owing to its closest proximity with Delhi and the need for Delhi to grow beyond its geographical boundaries to accommodate the ever-growing population, shifting pressure from its infrastructure.

The city of Ghaziabad was established in 1740 A.D. by Ghazi-ud-Din and named it as “Ghaziuddinnagar”, which was shortened to its present form, i.e. “Ghaziabad” with the opening of the Railways in 1864.
Ghaziabad, along with Meerut and Bulandshahar, remained one of the three Munsifs of the District, under the Meerut Civil Judgeship during most periods of the British Raj.The city was associated with the Indian independence movement from the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
Manufacturing Sector
Manufacturing industry is the asset of the city since it contributes tremendously to the economy of Uttar Pradesh. Common manufactures in the city are electroplating, vegetable oil, railway coaches, diesel engines, tapestries, paint, pottery, brace brackets, heavy chains and varnish.
