Ghaziabad district is one among 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh state in northern India. It is a largely suburban district forming an essential part of the National Capital Region (NCR). Located 470 Km East towards the State capital Lucknow. As per census 2011, Ghaziabad is the third Largest District in the State by population after Allahabad (also known as Prayagraj) and Moradabad districts.The district Ghaziabad is one of the six districts of Meerut Mandal and one of the major industrial districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Ghaziabad District shares its border with Delhi on one side and the districts of Baghpat, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Hapur District and Meerut of UP. 

About Ghaziabad

The city of Ghaziabad is the administrative headquarter of the district. Ghaziabad district is a part of the Meerut Division and enjoys close proximity to the National Capital Delhi. As per the census 2011,This district has the highest density of population in the state with 4060 persons per square km, along with an area of 1034 km.


The district has been divided into three sub-division for revenue & general administration namely:

  • Ghaziabad
  • Modinagar
  • Loni

It is a large and planned industrial district, which is also an industrial and educational center of Western Uttar-Pradesh. More than 500 steel organizations in the place employ more than 25,000 people.

History Of Ghaziabad

Before 1976 Ghaziabad district was known as Tehsil under district Meerut. On November 14, 1976, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the UP Government gave Ghaziabad the distinction of the district.

In 1976, The district came into existence with 10 development blocks, later on only 8 development blocks were left in Ghaziabad. Some parts were merged with Meerut while making Ghaziabad new district.

In 1997, the Dadri tehsil of Ghaziabad district was included in Gautam Budh Nagar district after which only 4 tehsils were left namely - Ghaziabad, Modinagar, Hapur and Garhmukteswar.

In 2011, a new district of Hapur was carved out of Ghaziabad, the district  currently has three tehsils namely Ghaziabad (HQ), Modinagar and Loni; four development blocks namely – Rajapur, Muradnagar, Bhojpur and Loni.

Modinagar and four development blocks – Rajapur, Muradnagar, Bhojpur, Loni were left but the date of creation of new Tehsil Loni has been done on January 29, 2014 Due to the reason now in Ghaziabad, three tehsils Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Loni and four development blocks – Rajapur, Muradnagar, Bhojpur, Loni are in Ghaziabad.

Facilities

Ghaziabad district is well connected by roads, railways, airport and bus connectivity across all over India.

Air Connectivity
Ghaziabad is well connected to the IGI Airport in Delhi which is only 35-40 kms away. There are also plans to convert the Hindon Airforce Station to a commercial airport. Government is also exploring some domestic flights on a regular basis from Hindon Aiport.

Road connectivity
District Headquarters Ghaziabad is well connected by a good network of roads. Loni, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, Muradnagar, are the Towns in this district having road connectivity to major towns and remote villages. 

Delhi-meerut Expressway is a major road which connects Delhi-NCR Region to the state of UP is majorly located in District Ghaziabad and Ends in Partapur Meerut just a little ahead of Modinagar.

Railway Connectivity
This district is the gateway to UP from adjoining states like Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. Some of the key railway stations in the district are Ghaziabad Junction, Hapur Junction, Pilkhua, Modinagar, Muradnagar, Garhmuktesar, Noli, New Ghaziabad which connects most of the towns and villages in the District. 
There are several weekly trains connecting Ghaziabad to Kanpur Central, Allahabad Jn and New Delhi.

Metro Connectivity
Delhi Metro extends its metro services towards Ghaziabad. Blue Line of the Delhi Metro crosses over to Ghaziabad after Anand Vihar station and then terminates at Vaishali. This entire stretch of Vasundhara, Indirapuram, Kaushambi is very well served by Metro.
Another Metro line (Red Line) extends further from Dilshad Garden in Delhi towards the Ghaziabad Bus Stand with some major stations at Sahibabad, Mohan Nagar, New Bus Stand.

Bus Transport
Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport (UPSRTC) runs Buses from all major cities to Ghaziabad District as it is an important connectivity to the capital Delhi.
