Details of Faridabad

Faridabad is the second most populous district of Haryana after Gurugram district as per the Census 2011. Faridabad is a leading industrial district of NCR and is located South of the National Capital Delhi.

It is one of the 22 districts in Haryana. The district shares its boundary with Delhi to its north, Gurugram district to the west and the state of Uttar Pradesh to its east and south.

The district is part of the Faridabad Division which comprises of three districts:

  • Faridabad
  • Nuh
  • Palwal

Faridabad district is further divided into two sub-divisions, namely:

  • Faridabad
  • Ballabgarh

Each division is headed by a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) provides the urban civic amenities to the citizens of Faridabad City.

About Faridabad

The district is named after its founder, Shaikh Farid, the treasurer of Jahangir. Faridabad is the most industrialized district in the entire state of Haryana.

Administratively, the Deputy Commissioner is the overall in-charge of the general administration in the district and performs the duties of the District 12 Magistrate and the District Collector.

River Yamuna flows on the east side of the district and has been a major reason for the early establishment for this area. Yamuna river also marks the state boundary with the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh.

History Of Faridabad

Faridabad District was established in AD 1707, it enjoys a strategically important location as it falls on the highway connecting the two most important ancient cities of Delhi and Agra.

Later Faridabad became the headquarters of a Pargana which was controlled by the Ballabgarh ruler.

Faridabad became the 12th District of Haryana in August 1979.

Total road length in the district during 2010-11 is 533 kilometers, out of this

  • 38 Kms is National Highway
  • 31 Kms is Major District Roads

  • National and State Highways

The Delhi-Mathura-Agra National Highway 44 (Grand Trunk Road) passes through the center of the district.

Gurgaon- Faridabad Road is a state highway which connects the two important districts which passes through the Aravalis Range.

State Highway-28 Palwal-Sohna-Rewari crosses the district roads and that cater to the deeper interiors of the district which include; Ballabgarh-Pali-Dhauj-Sohna.

Airport Connectivity:

The Nearest Airport to Faridabad district is Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi which is 37 Km away from Faridabad and the other one is Kheria Airport, Agra which is in UP (150 Km drive from Faridabad district).

Metro Connectivity:

Delhi Metro Violet Line connects Faridabad with Delhi, having nine metro stations in Faridabad corridor which are all elevated with a total length of 14 Km.It is one of the longest metro corridors in the National Capital Region (NCR).

There has been an extension in the Metro rail along Delhi-Mathura road, stretching up to Ballabgarh by adding two more stations - Sant Surdas Sihi and Raha Nahar Singh Ballabhgarh.

Haryana government is also planning to link industrial and commercial hubs of Faridabad and Gurgaon.


Railway connectivity:

Delhi-Mathura passes through Faridabad district. There are three stations namely Faridabad, Ballabgarh, and Asaoti which are the important focal points for the district.
