Situated adjacent to the National Capital New Delhi, Haryana is one of the most culturally rich state in Northern region of India. The state was carved out of the former state of Punjab on 1st November 1966, as the 17th Indian State.
The capital of Haryana is Chandigarh, and it is also the capital of the neighboring state Punjab. Haryana is enclosed by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to the north, Rajasthan to the southwest.
Haryana also shares the longest boundary with the NCT of Delhi. Subsequently, a large area of Haryana is included in the National Capital Region.
The name Haryana means the abode of God. It is a blend of two Sanskrit words ‘Hari’ which means God and ‘ayana’ meaning home. It is a land where guests are treated equal to god.

Haryana has an impressive history going back to the Vedic Age. The State was the home of the legendary Bharata dynasty, which has given the name Bharat to India. The State continued to play a leading part in the history of India till the advent of the Muslims and the rise of Delhi as the imperial capital of India.
Thereafter, Haryana functioned as an adjunct to Delhi and practically remained anonymous till the First War of India's Independence in 1857. Haryana became a part of the Punjab province after independence. With the reorganisation of Punjab on 1 November 1966, Haryana was carved out of Punjab and made into a full-fledged State.
The state is well connected to other states of the country through an extensive network of roadways, railways and airways.
Road Connectivity:
Haryana government has formed a body called Haryana Roadways State Transport that is a public transport unit which provide transport services in the state. There are altogether 446 inter-state and 1204 intra-state routes in Haryana. Approximately 4000 buses, operate in Haryana from 24 different depots.

Airport Connectivity:
The state is served by a domestic airport in Chandigarh, it is the only airport in Haryana and is among one of the major airports in North India.
The international flights from Chandigarh Airport have not yet been started but there are plans to operate international flights to some countries from this airport.
Metro Connectivity:
Delhi Metro connects the national capital Delhi with NCR cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon and Bahadurgarh.
Faridabad has the longest metro network in the NCR Region consisting of 11 stations and track length being 17 km.
At present Metro lines of more than 40 kms are operational in Gurugram, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh and Ballabhgarh and these cities are directly connected with Delhi.
