Sub city of East Delhi includes three districts namely North East Delhi, Shahdara and East Delhi. This region is spread over an area of 185 square km (64km + 59.75square km + 62square km) with population around 74lakhs (22.4lakhs+17.1+34.5). This region is bordered by Yamuna on the west and Uttar Pradesh on the east.

The sub city is a dynamic and thriving part of Delhi, with a mix of residential, commercial, and cultural aspects. Its strategic location, connectivity, and amenities make it a desirable place to live and work. 

Some of the important areas of the sub city are Bhajanpura, Dilshad Garden, Preet Vihar, Tahirpur, Yamuna Vihar, Mayur Vihar, Shahdara, Patparganj. These areas have a mix of residential complexes, independent houses, and slum settlements.

It has become a posh residential area with luxurious malls and restaurants. Ahinsha Vatika and EMAAR MGF Commonwealth Games Village are some prominent residential projects in the sub city.

The Sub city has emerged as a prominent commercial hub with numerous markets, shopping complexes, and business centers. Areas like Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, and Shahdara are known for their bustling markets, offering a wide range of goods and services.

It has industrial areas like, Shahdara, and Patparganj Industrial Area. These areas accommodate small-scale industries, factories, warehouses, and industrial units.

The State Government has been providing various schemes and rapid growth and development in its infrastructure and economy.

Earlier Delhi used to prevail only on the west banks of river as people feared pirates and invaders on other sides. But between 1980 and 1990, this area saw an inflow of population that lead to the construction of a bridge connecting the east and the west of the river named Trans Yamuna and was geographically labeled as East Delhi. Therefore, this subcity is bounded on the east by the Yamuna River and shares boundary with the State of UP on East.

Airport Connectivity:

IGI Airport is approximately 30-35 km away from East Delhi sub city. Several transport options are available.

Roadways Connectivity:

The major roads that connect sub city to other parts of Delhi and nearby areas are NH-9, Vikas Marg, Loni road, Noida Link Road and the GT road.

Railway Connectivity:

The sub city has railway connectivity through stations like Anand Vihar Terminal, Shahdara Junction, and Vivek Vihar Railway Station.

Metro Connectivity:

The blue line of the Delhi Metro runs through the sub city, with stations at Akshardham, Mayur Vihar Phase I, Nirman Vihar, Preet Vihar, Karkarduma, and Anand Vihar.

Bus Connectivity:

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and private buses connect the sub city to other parts of Delhi and neighboring states. The Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Anand Vihar is a major hub for buses travelling to Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and other states in North India.

Auto rickshaws and Taxis:

Auto rickshaws and taxis are easily available in the sub city, making it convenient for residents to travel within the sub city or to other parts of Delhi.

Tourists attractions and places of interest:

Akshardham Temple, Yamuna Sports Complex, Sanjay Lake, E-O-D Adventure park, V3S Mall, Laxmi Nagar Market, etc.
