Delhi, officially the National Capital of India is prominently divided by the Yamuna River that separates the eastern part and western part of the city and hence the area that falls under the eastern portion is known as the “East Delhi” Region that is also popularly known as the Trans Yamuna area.
East Delhi District is bounded by the Yamuna River on the west, Shahdara to the north, Ghaziabad District of Uttar Pradesh state to the east, and Gautam Buddha Nagar District of Uttar Pradesh to the south.
It is highly populated with over 17,09,346 inhabitants of different backgrounds and an area of 64 Sq. Km ,with a population density of 27,132 persons Sq. Km. The district has an elevation of 239 Metres above sea level.
Administratively, the district is divided into three subdivisions:

Airport Connectivity:
East Delhi District has easy access to the Indira Gandhi International & Domestic Airports.
Railway Connectivity:
Anand Vihar railway station is the easiest transport facility in East Delhi from where various luxury hotels and restaurants can easily be accessed. It is also well connected by high-frequency buses
Metro Connectivity :
Delhi Metro has reduced the traffic congestion to a great extent which has curtailed the rush around the district.
With the introduction of pink line, Metro connectivity of Mayur Vihar and adjoining areas has also improved as it comprises of shopping hubs like Lajpat Nagar just a few minutes away.
Blue Line connects East Delhi with Centre Delhi and West Delhi up to areas such as Janakpuri and Dwarka. Some of the major stations on Blue Line include Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar, Akshardham, and Anand Vihar.
Major Roads:
The Delhi-Meerut Expressway passes through East Delhi district to connect Delhi Sarai Kale Khan with Meerut in western UP. There is also a Noida Link road which connects Akshardham temple to Noida sectors.
Major Bus Connectivity:
The district has Anand Vihar Inter State Bus Terminal which was created in 1993 and its operations began in 1996. This is used to operate bus services to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, reducing the burden on existing Kashmere Gate ISBT. Anand Vihar ISBT is close to Anand Vihar railway station and there is also a Metro Rail connectivity at Anand Vihar station.
Major Places of Interest:
East Delhi is very famous for Akshardham Temple, Sanjay Lake, Gandhi Nagar Market, Laxmi Nagar Market. Some of the major malls in East Delhi include V3S Mall, Cross River Mall, East Delhi Mall ,etc.
Major Schools:
There are several schools like Ahlcon International School, Mother Mary’s School, Somerville School, G.D. Goenka Public School, Vivekanand School,DAV Public School, etc in East Delhi.
Major Hospitals:
In East Delhi, some of the important hospitals are Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences, Max Super Specialty Hospital and Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, etc.
Yamuna Sports complex situated in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi was redesigned and refurbished where the Commonwealth games took place. This complex was the main venue for many competitive sports. Although it is maintained and operated by Delhi Government, it is far superior than many privately maintained sport facilities.
