The area that lies to the east of the airport is called Eastern Suburbs which is one of the sub-cities of Mumbai Suburban District spreading across a large region consisting of several areas like Bhandup, Ghatkopar, Kanjurmarg, Kurla, Mulund, Nahur, Powai, Vidyavihar and Vikhroli. To the south-east lie the neighborhoods of Chembur, Govandi, Mankhurd, Trombay and Wadala.

History Of Mumbai Eastern Suburbs

The history of Mumbai's Eastern Suburbs dates back to the early 19th century when the British East India Company started developing the area as a residential suburb for its employees. The area was initially home to a few bungalows and villas owned by British officials and wealthy Indian businessmen.

During the early 20th century, the Eastern Suburbs witnessed significant growth as several housing projects were initiated to cater to the growing population. The first planned housing colony in the Eastern Suburbs was built in Chembur in the 1920s.
