Gautam Buddha Nagar district is a largely suburban district of Uttar Pradesh, formed on 6th September 1997. It was carved out from the portions of Ghaziabad and Bulandshahar, Greater Noida being the administrative Headquarters. The district has a population density of 1,161 inhabitants per square kilometre. It is considered an important industrial district of Uttar Pradesh.

Gautam Buddha Nagar is an important part of the National Capital Region (NCR) owing to its proximity to the National Capital Delhi. Gautambudh Nagar district is 25 km Southeast of New Delhi and is 457 km away from the state capital, Lucknow.

Gautam Buddha Nagar district consists of two cities:

• Noida
• Greater Noida 

The city of Greater Noida is India’s first ISO 160001 certified city. It is part of the NCR, divided into 3 sub-divisions, each headed by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM):

• Noida Sadar
• Dadri
• Jewar

The Gautambudh Nagar district was formed on 6th September 1997 with effect from the Government by carving out the portions of Ghaziabad and Bulandshahar.

Now the District includes, Dadri and Bisrakh blocks carved out of Ghaziabad, while Dankaur and Jewar blocks have been carved out of Bulandshahar District. Additionally, 18 other villages from Bulandshahar have also been carved out and have been included in Dankaur and Jewar.

Road Connectivity

Some of the Highways and expressways connecting Gautam Buddha Nagar to the nearby districts  and areas are:

• NH-24 (Renamed as Delhi Meerut)
• DND Flyway (links Noida and Delhi, runs across the Yamuna River)
• Noida-Greater Noida Expressway
• Yamuna Expressway (connects Greater Noida via Mathura to Agra)

Metro Connectivity: Gautam Buddha Nagar has excellent Metro connectivity, via Delhi Metro, Noida is now linked to Connaught Place, New Delhi and Dwarka sub-district, through the Blue Line touching Akshardham Complex, IP Estate, Barakhamba Lane, Karol Bagh, Rajendra Place, Rajouri Garden and Uttam Nagar.

The metro runs primarily across the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Another metro link will join Noida City Center to the Noida Extension and Knowledge park area of the Greater Noida West.

Airport Connectivity: The nearest airport for Gautambudh Nagar district is the Indira Gandhi International Airport situated in New Delhi. UP Government has also proposed a new International Airport in the Jewar area located on Yamuna Expressway. Once complete, this will be called as Noida International Airport and it will be the largest Airport of India.

IT Hub

The district is a major information technology (IT) hub. Samsung Electronics, HCL, PayTM, Hotline Appliances, Delphi, Videocon, L.G. Electronics, Moser Baer and Daewoo Electronics are among the city's already prominent IT and electronics players. The Hindustan Times is the largest media organization located in the district.

Noida is considered to be India's greenest city with nearly 50% green cover, the highest of any city in India.

Education

The district has evolved as an epicenter for technical education and industrial expansion. There are over 200 colleges located in Noida and Greater Noida.

F1 Circuit

Gautambudh Nagar has a 5km motor racing track also known as Buddh International Circuit located on Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida. The first Indian Grand Prix took place in 2011 putting the district on the global map.
