The municipal corporation is a government organization with elected members who are responsible for managing the infrastructure, public services, and transportation of a city. The Master Plan is implemented in a phased manner, and the timeline for the completion of various projects may vary. Here are some of the major developments planned under the TMC Master Plan:

Phase I (2017-2021):

• Construction of new roads and widening of existing roads to improve the traffic situation in the city.
• Upgradation of the public transportation system, including the introduction of new buses and the implementation of a bus rapid transit system.
• Implementation of the Smart City Mission, including the development of a smart traffic management system, a smart parking system, and a solid waste management system.
• Construction of new water treatment plants, water supply pipelines, and reservoirs to provide uninterrupted water supply to the residents of Thane city.
• Setting up of new multi-specialty hospitals and upgrading of existing health centers and hospitals to improve the healthcare infrastructure in the city.
• Construction of affordable housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Phase II (2021-2025):

• Implementation of the Metro Rail project to improve connectivity within the city and with other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
• Construction of new flyovers and underpasses to improve the traffic situation in the city.
• Development of new parks and open spaces for recreation and greenery.
• Upgradation of the stormwater drainage system to prevent flooding during the monsoon season.
• Construction of new schools and colleges to improve the education infrastructure in the city.

Phase III (2025-2031):

• Construction of a new airport in Thane city to improve air connectivity.
• Development of new industrial estates and business parks to promote economic growth.
• Implementation of the digital city initiative to make Thane a technology-enabled city.
• Construction of new public amenities, including community centers, sports complexes, and libraries.

Swachh Thane - Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

The TMC has taken a major initiative to keep the city clean and green under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The initiative includes a door-to-door garbage collection system, the construction of public toilets, and waste segregation.

Smart City Mission

Thane has been selected as one of the cities under the Smart City Mission launched by the Government of India. The TMC has taken various initiatives to improve infrastructure, transportation, and security in the city.

Affordable Housing Scheme

TMC has launched an affordable housing scheme to provide low-cost housing to the citizens of Thane. The initiative aims to provide affordable housing to the economically weaker sections of society.

Thane Vision 2031

Thane Vision 2031 is a long-term plan initiated by the TMC to make Thane a model city in terms of infrastructure, transportation, and environment. The initiative includes the development of a metro network, the construction of flyovers and bridges, and the development of green spaces.

E-Governance

TMC has implemented an e-governance system to provide online services to citizens. The initiative includes online payment of taxes, issuance of certificates, and grievance redressal.

Health Initiatives

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is a part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and is well-connected with other parts of the region through various modes of transportation, including the Mumbai Metro. Currently, there are two metro routes under construction in Thane, which are:

Metro Line 4 (Wadala to Kasarvadavali):

This metro line will connect Thane City with other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Wadala, Ghatkopar, Mulund, and Kasarvadavali. The Thane Metro Line 4 will have 32 stations and cover a distance of approximately 32.32 km. It will be an elevated corridor and is expected to cater to a daily ridership of around 8 lakh passengers.

Metro Line 5 (Thane to Kalyan):

This metro line will connect Thane City with Kalyan, a rapidly growing industrial and residential area in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The Thane Metro Line 5 will have 17 stations and cover a distance of approximately 24.90 km. It will be an elevated corridor and is expected to cater to a daily ridership of around 2.29 lakh passengers.

The construction of these metro lines is expected to provide a major boost to the transportation infrastructure in Thane city and improve connectivity with other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The metro is expected to provide a safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly mode of transportation to commuters and reduce traffic congestion on the roads.
