The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) is the municipal corporation in charge of governing the city of Bangalore, India. It is responsible for providing basic civic amenities and services such as water supply, waste management, public health, and sanitation to the citizens of Bangalore.
BBMP was created in 2007 by merging the erstwhile Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), along with seven city municipal councils (CMCs), one town municipal council (TMC), and 110 villages around Bangalore.
BBMP is the fourth-largest municipal corporation in India, with a jurisdictional area of 716 sq. km and a population of over 8 million people.
Some of the Major developments are-
Bangalore Suburban Rail:
BBMP has played a crucial role in the development of Bangalore Suburban Rail. They have collaborated with the State Government and Indian Railways to improve rail connectivity in the city and reduce traffic congestion.
Namma Metro:
BBMP has been actively involved in the development of Namma Metro, Bangalore's rapid transit system. They have collaborated with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to expand the metro network in the city.
Infrastructure Development:
BBMP has undertaken several infrastructure development projects in the city, including construction and widening of roads, installation of footpaths, construction of flyovers, and development of underpasses.
The Master Plan 2015 of BBMP (Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike) was the previous master plan for Bangalore city. It was in effect from 2007 to 2015, and it was formulated with the objective of guiding the city's growth and development during that period.

Infrastructure Development:
The plan focuses on improving the infrastructure in the city, including transportation, water supply, sewage, solid waste management, and drainage systems.
Environmental Protection:
The plan includes provisions for environmental protection, including protection of natural resources, green spaces, and conservation of heritage sites.
Affordable Housing:
The plan includes provisions for the development of affordable housing to meet the growing demand for housing in the city.
Public Participation:
The plan emphasizes the importance of public participation in the planning and implementation process.
Major initiatives that BBMP has taken-
COVID-19 Response:
BBMP played a crucial role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic in Bengaluru. They set up COVID care centers, conducted testing drives, and facilitated the vaccination drive in the city.
Solid Waste Management:
BBMP has implemented several initiatives to manage solid waste in the city. They have set up dry waste collection centers and composting units, and have also initiated waste segregation at source.
Road Infrastructure:
BBMP has taken up several road infrastructure projects in the city, including widening of roads, construction of flyovers and underpasses, and installation of pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.
Lake Rejuvenation:
BBMP has taken up the task of rejuvenating and restoring the city's lakes. They have undertaken several initiatives to clean up the lakes, including setting up of sewage treatment plants and setting up of wetlands.
Digitization:
BBMP has initiated several digitization projects to improve its services and make them more accessible to citizens. They have launched mobile apps for grievance redressal, online payment of taxes, and property-related services.
The BBMP's jurisdiction covers an area of 800 square kilometers, which includes the city's core area, as well as several surrounding villages that have been brought under the city's jurisdiction. The BBMP's area of jurisdiction is divided into 198 wards, each represented by an elected councilor.
Two operational metro routes in Bangalore that fall under the jurisdiction of BBMP. These are:
Green Line (North-South Corridor):
This metro route connects Nagasandra in the north of the city to Yelachenahalli in the south. It passes through several major areas in the city, including Rajajinagar, Majestic, MG Road, Indiranagar, and Jayanagar. The Green Line has a total of 24 stations, out of which 6 stations fall under BBMP's jurisdiction.
Purple Line (East-West Corridor):
This metro route connects Baiyappanahalli in the east to Mysuru Road in the west. It passes through several major areas in the city, including Indiranagar, MG Road, Cubbon Park, and Vijayanagar. The Purple Line has a total of 17 stations, out of which 4 stations fall under BBMP's jurisdiction.
