Bengaluru Urban is a district of the Indian state of Karnataka, officially known as Bengaluru Urban district, located on the Deccan Plateau in the South Eastern part of Karnataka. It is the most populous district in the Indian state of Karnataka.

The district is spread across five Talukas:

  • Bengaluru North,
  • Bengaluru East,
  • Bengaluru South 
  • Yelahanka
  • Anekal

Anekal Taluk is also called as Ragi Bowl in the State. Being the nerve centre of Karnataka’s State legislative, both the High Court and State Legislative falls under the jurisdiction of the Bengaluru Urban district.

Bengaluru Urban District is surrounded by the Bangalore Rural district on the east and north, the Ramanagara district on the west and the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on the south.

History Of Bengaluru Urban

Bangalore Urban district came into existence on August 15th 1986 with the partition of the former Bangalore district into Bangalore Urban District and Bangalore Rural District.

In Bangalore, the real estate market started growing in the 1980s and 1990s, boosted by capital investors from other parts of the country who converted Bangalore's large plots and colonial bungalows into multi-storied apartments.

Airport Connectivity :

Bangalore is well linked by frequent flights to and from Delhi, Mumbai and most of the other major towns in India. Bengaluru also has global carriers flowing into and out of the Bengaluru International Airport, situated about 40 Kilometres from the primary town.

Road Connectivity:

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has various options of buses from regular to air-conditioned Volvo buses for both travellers and visitors connecting to all the nearby cities within Karnataka and also around the state.

National Highways:

  • NH-4 (Mumbai-Pune-Bengaluru-Chennai)
  • NH-7 and NH-209, passes through the district.

Railway Connectivity:

  • Bengaluru Urban district has two major railway stations which includes:
  • Bengaluru City Railway Station
  • Yeswantpur Junction.

These stations are  well-connected to a number of Indian cities and nearby states. Some of the major routes include to the places of Lucknow Nr, New Delhi, and Howrah Jn. There is 1 weekly train connecting Lucknow to Bangalore, 8 weekly trains connecting New Delhi to Bangalore, and 2 weekly trains connecting Howrah Jn to Bangalore.

Metro Connectivity:

For travelling within Bangalore, there is Namma Metro (with limited connectivity), which is an intra-city rail network set up by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation. It encompasses a 42.3 km (26.3 mi) elevated and underground rail network, comprising of 41 stations. The metro line between Sampige Road and Peenya Industrial Area was inaugurated on 1 March 2014. Once complete, it is expected to connect central locations in Bangalore to Devanahalli and Chikaballapur regions.
