Greater Noida Authority is responsible for the development of Greater Noida city located in Gautambudh Nagar district of UP. The city is a part of Delhi NCR area and is a satellite town of National Capital Delhi. It is the twin city for Noida and offers a good infrastructure with a focus on future development. Also being developed as a metro hub, offering a high-quality urban environment, to draw business and population in order to relieve Delhi's congestion. UP Industrial Area Development Act of 1976 established GNIDA as the single authority for planning, developing, regulating, and operating.

5,075 Hectare already urbanized in Phase I.

Urbanize able area of 22,255 Hectare by year 2021.

City planned for a population of 0.7 million by year 2011 and 1.2 million by year 2021.

Industry led development - 4201 Hectare to be developed by 2021.

Residential development – 5000 Hectare to be developed by 2021.

Greater Noida Industrial Area is located at the intersection of the Western and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridors and is also the gateway to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). 

First Master Plan for Greater Noida-2011 was prepared in 1992.

Outline Development Plan 2001 Approved by NCR Planning Board in 1996:

• 2 Sub-regional Centres Surajpur and Kasna
• Total Population 3.00 Lakh population (1.5 lakh each)
• Total Urbanisable area - 5075 Ha. (Including UPSIDC area).

 In year 1998 preparation of Greater Noida Master Plan 2021 was started by the Authority.

After hearing of public objection/suggestions invited by means of publication of notice in leading newspapers, the Master Plan-2021 was finalized in year 2001 and approved in 41st Board Meeting.

GNIDA is responsible for the development of all the land within the limits of Greater Noida city.

In Year 1991 total number villages notified were 101. In Year 2006 additional 188 villages were notified as development area for further Expansion of Greater Noida Area.

Presently total number of villages notified with GNIDA and its expansion area are 293 after a few modifications as done by U.P. State Government.

In December 2020, NMRC and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation signed an agreement through which DMRC will be providing General Consultant (GC) and Project Management Consultant (PMC) services to develop the Aqua Line’s 9.6 km extension from Sector 51 to Greater Noida Sector-2.
