BIAAPA has been involved in the development of new residential areas in the airport area, including the construction of affordable housing and apartment complexes along with new commercial areas in the airport area, including the construction of shopping malls, hotels, and office buildings. It is also promoting the development of industries around the airport area, with a focus on technology and aerospace sectors as well as ensuring that the airport area is developed in an environmentally sustainable manner. This includes measures to protect natural habitats, reduce pollution and promote green energy and sustainable transportation. It is also developing the social and physical infrastructure in the airport area, including schools, hospitals, parks and sports facilities.

Master Plan (2001-present)

A Modified and containment strategy that laid emphasis on “Selecting a core planning (development) area subjected to special environmental controls and an action area corridor so that the corridor becomes a processional way to Bangalore. Utilizing the opportunity to harness and transform the ribbon and associated unplanned accretion growth into planned and focused nodal center. Developing a satellite town or Airport township taking the benefits of available infrastructure. Considering three towns (Doddaballapura, Devanahalli and Vijayapura) as not only the growth centers influenced by the airport related activities, but also as containment centers of the excess population from the Bangalore Metropolitan Area”.

The Bangalore International Airport Area Planning Authority (BIAAPA) is responsible for the overall development of the area surrounding Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, India. The area covered by BIAAPA is specifically defined by the Government of Karnataka and is primarily in two regions:

The Airport Area: The area that falls within the airport's operational area, including the airport itself and the land surrounding it that is used for airport-related activities. This includes the airport's runways, taxiways, aprons, and terminal buildings.

The Airport Influence Area: The area that is affected by the airport's operations, including the areas surrounding the airport where land use and development is influenced by the airport's presence. This may include areas that are affected by noise, pollution, and other impacts associated with the airport's operations.

Bangalore Metro Phase 2B(KR Puram to Airport) is an under construction Blue Line from Bengaluru city to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Devanahalli.Construction of Phase-2B began in February-2022. The total length of the line is 37 km. The metro train to the airport will be originating from Silk Board.
