Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated two NHAI projects in Gurugram, aimed at decongesting NCR, and also laid the foundation stone for three new projects. The completed projects included a two-lane underpass, popularly called Medanta underpass, from Chaudhary Bakhtawar Singh Road towards Delhi near Rajiv Chowk, built at a cost of Rs 30 crore, and the four-lane flyover on MG Road at Maharana Pratap Chowk, built at a cost of Rs 34 crore.

At the inauguration, Union minister of state for planning and Gurgaon MP, Rao Inderjit Singh, said, "We should all thank Gadkariji for the completion of these projects." Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who was also present at the inaugurations, said, "Today's project inaugurations mean city traffic will ease. Commuters at Rajiv Chowk won't have to face snarls any more."

The three new projects, for which bhoomi pujan was done on Monday, includes the six km-long elevated corridor on Sohna road starting from Subhash Chowk and ending near Badshapur village. This will ease traffic on Sohna road, and Vatika Chowk in particular.

Another project, whose foundation stone was laid on Monday, was improvement of the T-junction near Dhaula Kuan Metro station, where Parade road meets NH-8. The turning radius towards Jaipur will be enhanced by widening the road around pillars of Metro's Airport Line viaduct. The carriageway from Dhaula Kuan towards Delhi Cantonment will also be separated. "It takes more time to reach my home from Delhi airport, than to fly between Delhi and Nagpur. The Dhaula Kuan project will take care of this," added Gadkari. The third project for which foundation stone was laid was improvement of the Dwarka Expressway at Mahipalpur.

The Union minister also spoke of other projects his ministry plans to undertake soon. They included creation of free passage for vehicles at toll plazas across India. "All cars will be fitted with radio-frequency identification (RFID), which will automatically deduct the toll amount, ending jams," he said.

Gadkari also said his ministry plans to construct a greenfield access controlled expressway connecting Delhi and Jaipur, that will reduce commute time between the two cities to a mere two hours. He urged the state government to expedite land acquisition for the project. He also promised to make the stretch between Dhaula Kuan and the IGI Airport signal free in the coming days, reducing travel time from Dhaula Kuan to the airport to eight minutes.
