In a significant development that could potentially transform the urban transit landscape in Ghaziabad, the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent budget allocation for ropeway projects has breathed new life into the previously stalled initiative to connect the Metro Red Line with the Old Railway Station via a ropeway system.

This move is set to address the longstanding traffic congestion issues on GT Road and provide a seamless travel experience for commuters.

Project Revival with Budget Allocation

The Metro Red Line, which currently terminates at Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda in Ghaziabad, leaves commuters with no option but to traverse the congested GT Road to reach the Old Railway Station.

Recognizing the critical need to alleviate traffic congestion and facilitate smoother commutes, the UP government has earmarked Rs 100 crore for the ropeway project, signaling a strong commitment to enhancing public transportation infrastructure.

Survey and DPR by NHLM

The National Highways Logistics Management (NHLM) had conducted surveys and prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the ropeway route, aiming to integrate it into the urban transport network.

However, due to financial constraints, the project had come to a halt. The recent budget provision is expected to kickstart the construction phase, promising a much-needed solution to the connectivity challenges faced by the region.

Proposed Ropeway Routes

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) had previously sought approval for ropeway services across four routes during a board meeting.

These routes included Vaishali to Mohan Nagar, Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad, New Bus Adda Metro Station to Railway Station, and Hindon River Metro Station to Raj Nagar Extension.

However, proposals for the first two routes were dismissed on the grounds that introducing alternative transport modes within existing metro routes was not advisable.

Benefits to the These Area.

The ropeway project, particularly connecting the railway station to the metro, is anticipated to directly benefit over 20,000 daily commuters, significantly reducing traffic pressure on GT Road. By extending the metro’s reach to the railway station via strategically placed pillars along the green belt behind Mahamaya Stadium and alongside the railway line, residents of Delhi’s Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, UP Border’s Shalimar Garden, Loni, Rajendra Nagar, Shaheed Park, Mohan Nagar, and those living near the Hindon Airbase stand to gain direct and convenient access to the metro network.
