More than one-fifth of Delhi’s road network is set for extensive repairs or resurfacing under a sweeping redevelopment plan placed before Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a recent review meeting on air pollution.
According to the Road Redevelopment Action Plan submitted by multiple agencies, stretches covering 3,298 km, over 21 per cent of the capital’s total 15,598 km road length, have been identified for urgent intervention. The phased overhaul is estimated to cost Rs 7,207 crore.
Of the total network, nearly 10,099 km falls within authorised colonies and about 1,000 km within unauthorised colonies.
The proposal flags 2,298 km in authorised colonies and 1,000 km in unauthorised colonies for redevelopment, reflecting widespread wear and tear across residential and market areas.
