Prior to this, south-bound vehicles would enter the coastal road either from the Worli interchange or the Amarson’s interchange apart from the direct connectivity that is provided via the Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL).
One more traffic arm of Mumbai Coastal Road at the Haji Ali traffic interchange was opened on Wednesday morning. This traffic arm will allow vehicles travelling towards Marine Drive to directly enter the coastal road and ply on the southbound carriageway of the high-speed connector.
Prior to this, south-bound vehicles would enter the coastal road either from the Worli interchange or the Amarson’s interchange apart from the direct connectivity that is provided via the Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL). The Haji Ali interchange comprises eight vehicular arms, which is followed by the Amarson’s and Worli interchange comprising four five and four arms each. After this, only one arm awaits opening at the Worli interchange that would provide direct connectivity towards the BWSL to northbound vehicles coming from Worli.
“The arms of the interchanges were being opened in a phased manner since the balance works like evening the road surfaces were underway. Now only one arm remains, which will be opened by us in the next one month,” said a civic official.
“We also had to construct vehicular parking spaces for the traffic arms, as a result of which the opening of these arms took some time,” the official added. Prior to this, vehicular arms at the Haji Ali interchange were opened in December 2024
Meanwhile, in January 2025, the BMC opened the linking bow-string arch bridge that connects the BWSL with the coastal road. Built at a cost of Rs 13,000 crore, the 10.58 km high-speed corridor has brought down travel time to less than 10 minutes, earlier when it used to take nearly an hour.
