Noida’s much-awaited international airport, dubbed the Jewar airport, is nearing completion with plans to kickstart passenger services this October.

This mega-project is slated to become India’s biggest airport upon its inauguration, marking the third significant aviation hub in the National Capital Region (NCR), following Delhi airport and Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad.

Connecting this airport will be a network of six roads, alongside a rapid rail-cum-metro system, and pod taxis. To ensure smooth access, a 31-km greenfield expressway is under construction, designed to link the airport to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Ballabhgarh.

According to NDTV, Arun Vir Singh, CEO of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) said that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is also working round the clock to make sure there’s smooth sailing from the expressway to the airport. They’re building an eight-lane road spanning 750 meters, with the first four lanes expected to open by June 15, and the rest following suit by August 15.

Plus, there are three other airport connection projects in the pipeline, all handled by the NHAI. One of them is an 8.2-kilometer road to the north and east of the airport, costing Rs 63 crore, and set to be ready in eight months.

For exclusive access, a VIP road is also in the works, facilitating direct passage from the Yamuna Expressway to the Noida Airport, catering specifically to VIPs and emergencies, as revealed by the YEIDA chief.

Meanwhile, with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Rapid Rail-cum-Metro Rail already approved, efforts are underway to secure funding from the government. Additionally, studies are ongoing for the implementation of pod taxis and monorails, anticipated to conclude within two years.
