The long-anticipated Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway project is finally gaining significant momentum, promising to revolutionise connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion across the National Capital Region (NCR). This 56-kilometre arterial road, which includes a substantial 23-kilometre stretch within Noida, is poised to dramatically improve travel between Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad.

Recent high-level official meetings have refined the project’s implementation strategy, marking a crucial step towards fostering sustainable urban mobility and facilitating a more eco-friendly transit environment for commuters. The FNG Expressway is projected to offer substantial benefits to over 30 sectors and more than 1,000 industries situated along its route. Once completed, it will significantly reduce travel times and divert vehicular traffic from existing congested arteries in the NCR. This improved connectivity is vital not only for economic efficiency but also for reducing carbon emissions by allowing smoother traffic flow and potentially decreasing idling times, contributing to the region’s zero-net carbon aspirations. The enhanced accessibility will also foster more equitable opportunities for businesses and residents across these interconnected cities.

To maximise the utility and reach of the FNG Expressway, ancillary patch roads are being constructed, designed to seamlessly connect various bridges and underpasses along the main thoroughfare. These crucial feeder roads will significantly improve intra-city and inter-city travel, specifically enhancing connectivity between areas like Greater Noida West and Greater Faridabad. Such integrated infrastructure planning is essential for creating a comprehensive and efficient transport network that supports sustainable urban development and accommodates future growth in a structured manner.

A new Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been meticulously prepared for the uncompleted sections of the expressway. This comprehensive report outlines three potential alignments, with the final route to be selected following approval from the relevant departmental head office. Officials have already completed thorough surveys for all three proposed options, demonstrating a methodical approach to project planning and execution. This meticulous planning is crucial for ensuring the project’s long-term viability and its ability to adapt to evolving urban needs.

A major engineering highlight of the revised plan is the proposed construction of a six-lane bridge over the Yamuna River. This vital bridge, stretching 600 metres, will forge a crucial direct link between Noida Sector 168 and Sector 167A in Faridabad. With an estimated cost of ₹200 crore, the financial burden for this significant infrastructure component will be shared collaboratively by the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. This inter-state cooperation underscores a unified commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic synergy.

Noida is also slated for substantial infrastructure upgrades along the FNG route. These include the development of a 3.68-kilometre underpass, estimated to cost approximately ₹30.29 crore, and a 650-metre elevated road with an anticipated expenditure of ₹633 crore. Furthermore, a 75-metre-wide approach road will be constructed to ensure convenient and efficient access to these new structures. These strategic investments in infrastructure are vital for creating a robust transport backbone that can support economic growth, improve quality of life, and pave the way for a more sustainable and accessible urban environment for all citizens, promoting gender-neutral access to opportunities across the region.
