The Noida Authority has decided to complete unfinished sections of a 45-metre-wide arterial road running parallel to the 25-kilometre Noida–Greater Noida Expressway, in a move aimed at easing congestion and improving local connectivity.
Planned as a sector road to carry neighbourhood traffic, the route remains partially unusable due to three missing links between Sectors 163 and 167. The gaps, measuring 74 metres, 75 metres and 81 metres, have broken the continuity of the corridor, which otherwise comprises a six-lane central carriageway with service lanes on both sides.
Residents of sectors including 150, 151, 152, 153, 155, 163, 167, 135 and 168 said the incomplete road has left them with little choice but to use the expressway even for short daily trips into Noida, adding to traffic congestion and travel time.
Officials acknowledged that the sector road was intended to divert local traffic away from the expressway and reduce pressure on the main corridor. Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Lokesh M has directed the civil and land departments to resolve the land-related issues that have stalled work on the missing stretches.
According to Vijay Rawal, Deputy General Manager of the Authority, discussions will be held with farmers who own land along the unfinished sections to break the deadlock. Farmers have been seeking land-for-land compensation within the city in exchange for their agricultural holdings.
While an elevated road along the Yamuna embankment continues to face approval delays, officials said the sharp rise in traffic at Noida’s entry points and the upcoming Noida International Airport have made completion of the parallel arterial road increasingly urgent.
