The DMRC has proposed extending the Pink Line from Gokalpuri in North-East Delhi to Arthala in Ghaziabad, enhancing connectivity with a 13-kilometer route featuring over 10 new stations.
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has put forward a proposal for a new metro line that would link North-East Delhi with the Trans Hindon area in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. This extension of the Pink Line is designed to enhance connectivity in highly populated regions.
The DMRC has submitted this proposal to the central government, the Delhi government, and the Uttar Pradesh government for approval. Upon receiving the green light, the DMRC will carry out surveys and complete the required procedures to move forward with the new metro route.
The proposed metro corridor is set to extend from Gokalpuri to Arthala, passing through key areas such as DLF and Dilshad Garden Extension-2, as per a News 18 report. North-East Delhi, which boasts the highest population density in the region at 36,155 people per square kilometre (as per the 2011 census), will greatly benefit from this new line.
The corridor will start from the existing Gokalpuri metro station on the Pink Line, which currently operates between Shiv Vihar and Majlis Park. The extension will run through Dilshad Garden Extension-2, DLF, Hindon Airport, and along Wazirabad Road, linking Delhi with Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad region. If approved, the new metro corridor will connect the existing Red Line with the under-construction Pink Line. As per the DMRC proposal, the Pink Line extension will run from Gokalpuri Metro Station in Delhi to Arthala.
In Ghaziabad, the route will pass through several key areas, including Loni Gol Chakkar, DLF, Shalimar Garden, Hindon Airport, Bhopura, Tulsi Niketan, Rajendra Nagar, Hindon Air Force Station, New Karhaira Colony, Karhaira, and the Loni Road Industrial Area before reaching Arthala.
The Red Line Metro may also be connected to Arthala. The proposed Pink Metro Corridor is expected to surpass the Blue and Red Lines in length. Currently, Ghaziabad has two metro corridors: the Blue Line, which covers about 2 km from Anand Vihar to Vaishali, and the Red Line, which spans roughly 9.5 km from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda.
The proposed Pink Line Metro Corridor is expected to stretch approximately 13 km and may feature over 10 stations. This new extension will greatly enhance Ghaziabad’s connectivity with East, South, and West Delhi.
Once completed, the Pink Line Metro extension will provide Ghaziabad residents with direct access to South Delhi, facilitating easier travel to various key locations. These include North-East Delhi, East Delhi, Mayur Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ashram, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Sarojini Nagar, Bhikaji Cama Place, Delhi Cantt, Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Azadpur, and Majlis Park.
