Preparations for the Namo Bharat Metro train service have intensified following the successful landing of the first flight at the newly constructed Noida International Airport in Jewar.
The much-awaited Namo Bharat train project is set to provide a rapid transit link from Ghaziabad to the Noida International Airport currently under construction at Jewar.
The Uttar Pradesh government has sent the detailed project report (DPR) for approval to the central government. According to sources the DPR is expected to receive approval soon, as discussions between officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), central government, and other agencies have already taken place. Once the DPR is approved, work on the project is expected to commence at a rapid pace.
Rail corridor:
The proposed rail corridor will span 72.44 kilometers, linking Ghaziabad and Jewar, and is expected to have 11 stations along the route. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹20,637 crore. NCRTC had earlier submitted the DPR to the state government, which has now forwarded it to the central government for approval. The DPR is still under review.
Noida Airport:
The Noida International Airport is also progressing rapidly. The construction of the terminal building is nearly complete, with glass fittings already installed. The entrance of the terminal is being designed to resemble the iconic ghats of Varanasi. The final touches, including tile work, are expected to be completed by January 31. The terminal is slated to open in April 2024, with commercial flight services expected to begin shortly after.
Namo Bharat connectivity:
The Namo Bharat train will serve as a major transportation corridor connecting one of the largest cities in the NCR with the new international airport, which is anticipated to handle millions of passengers annually. This development is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and promote economic growth in the region. Once operational, the train service will offer a seamless, fast, and efficient mode of travel for commuters and travelers heading to and from the airport.
Stations:
There will be 10 stations including Sector 71, Noida, Greater Noida West, Tech Zone 4 in Greater Noida, Bisrakh, Sector 2 in Greater Noida, Delta 1, Alpha 1, Pari Chowk, Yamuna Expressway and Noida Airport.
