Following up on their proposal to take over private colonies, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is planning to take over four more areas, including South City 1 and 2, Ardee city and Sushant Lok-2. A meeting with the members of these private colonies has also been scheduled for May 16 to discuss the terms. The earlier scheme was to initiate the process by taking over Sushant Lok-1, Palam Vihar and DLF phases by May.

“We have set conditions that the colony members and the residents’ welfare association (RWA) members have to agree before to take over. We have invited the members of the private societies for a meeting on May 16. We will decide as we proceed,” said MCG commissioner V Umashankar.

Asked about the future course of action, Umashankar said the MCG is planning on taking over all private colonies eventually. Although he agreed that the proposal was to take over all private colonies eventually, the MCG had earlier refused to take over the maintenance of colonies in March, stating that the developers needed to improve the basic amenities before the takeover. These basic amenities include roads, drains, parks, garbage disposal, water pipelines and community centres.

“All the private colonies will be taken over in a while. The conditions will be mentioned in the meeting and the members of RWAs and colonies will let us know of their decision,” he said.

In February last year, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had ordered the transfer of maintenance of five residential colonies that include DLF phases 1-3,Sushant Lok-1 and Palam Vihar from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) to the MCG.

A proposal to take over South City 1 and 2 was also sent. It was reported earlier that the delay in takeover of these colonies by the MCG was because of incomplete infrastructure and lack of basic amenities.

The Haryana government had also approved the transfer of 33 Huda sectors to the MCG in February last year. This came after the government came to a conclusion that lake of funds with Huda had resulted in poor civic amenities in sectors and had transferred the sectors to the MCG.

These sectors include 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7 extension, 9, 9A, 10A, 12, 12A, 14, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 23A, 27, 28, 30 (Part), 31, 32, 33, 34, 37 (Part 2), 38, 39, 40, 41 (Part), 42, 43, 47, 54, 55 and 56.
