The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has initiated load testing for the long-awaited ‘Missing Link’ stretch on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, signalling that the major infrastructure project is entering its final phase before opening to traffic.
Inspection vehicles are now being deployed regularly along the newly constructed section to evaluate structural strength and ensure that the corridor meets all safety and engineering standards.
Both carriageways have now been connected, allowing vehicles to travel smoothly from one end of the stretch to the other.
Despite earlier delays, the project is now close to completion, with only final finishing works remaining. Officials expect the corridor to be fully ready for commissioning by the end of April.
Once inaugurated, traffic will be introduced in stages. Initially, only light vehicles will be allowed to use the route for the first three months.
Passenger buses and heavy vehicles will be permitted in the following three months, while authorities will review traffic patterns over six months before deciding on allowing commercial vehicles.
