More U-turns at Hero Honda Chowk soon for better traffic management: Huda

To streamline traffic flow and facilitate a smooth movement of vehicles between Rajiv Chowk and Kherki Daula Toll on the Delhi -Gurgaon Expressway, new U-turns at the busy Hero Honda Chowk will soon be opened to commuters.

The distance between the Rajiv Chowk and Kherki Daula is about seven kilometres and in the absence of U-turn at Hero Honda Chowk, which falls exactly between the two points, the commuters are forced to cover a longer distance.

The Haryana urban development authority (Huda) has requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to build U-turns at the Hero Honda Chowk at the earliest.

The Huda said the NHAI has already consented to build two U-turns on the busy stretch.

“The commuters coming from Kherki Daula side can take one of the proposed U-turns. Now, they take U-turn at Rajiv Chowk. The new U-turn will save both distance and time. The U-turn will also decongest traffic at the Kherki Daula Toll and facilitate a smooth traffic movement,” Yashpal Yadav, Huda administrator, said.

At Kherki Daula, the traffic chaos is a regular affair and is a big challenge for the police and Huda. This is because of the sheer volume of vehicles that the converge at the toll through the day and move from one side of the highway to the other.

“The new U-turns at Hero Honda will present a solution to this problem as the commuters could then use it to cross over to the other side of the highway. Similarly, commuters coming from Rajiv Chowk can take the U-turn at Hero Honda Chowk to save time and distance,” the Huda administrator said, adding that the NHAI will open the new U-turns to traffic soon.

The NHAI is currently in the process of constructing a flyover and an underpass at Hero Honda Chowk in a bid to decongest the stretch and separate the highway traffic from the local.

Rambir Singh, a resident of Narsighpur, said, “We have been struggling for years in our quest for a safe passage to the other side of the highway. We were relieved when the government agreed to construct a flyover and underpasses at Hero Honda Chowk. Since the volume of traffic on the stretch remains high, the new U-turns will go a long way in ensuring a smooth flow of vehicles.”

Despite repeated calls and messages, NHAI project director AK Sharma was not available for comment.
