The Manyata Business Park in Bengaluru has been submerged in water and roads leading to it have been blocked in the latest round of flood in India's IT capital.

Bengaluru: The Manyata Business Park, which houses several tech companies, has been submerged in flood water on Monday as the heavy rains brought India’s IT capital to its knee. Several parts of the city are grappling with severe waterlogging and visuals of the submerged park in the Outer Ring Road show heavy flooding in the area.

Roads inside the Tech Park and those leading to the region has been submerged and heavy traffic jam is also reported in the area.

The Outer Ring Road area witnessed flooding last week also. Experts blamed excess construction in the region and encroachment of stormwater channels and lakes for the severe flooding. According to Geo Analytics experts at World Resources Institute (WRI), the water flow has been severely blocked in the region due to construction and only the government-owned remnants of the irrigation canals – Rajakaluves – remained. These reduced channels are not sufficient for carrying floodwaters. This causes flooding in Manyata Tech Park, RMZ Ecospace, Rainbow Drive and other locations in the area.

The netizens who shared visuals of the flooded park also blamed the blockage of Rajakaluves for the flooding.

In their letter to Chief Minister Bashavaraj Bommai, the Outer Ring Road Companies Associations (ORRCA) projected a collective loss of Rs 225 crore for all the companies under it due to the flooding that took place last week. It is estimated that more than five lakh professionals are employed along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor between Central Silk Board and the KR Puram corridor.

Meanwhile, some companies in Bengaluru including Swiggy and Goldman Sachs asked their employees to work from home.
