Over 3 lakh cubic metre of earth was excavated to make the Majestic Interchange Metro station -a volume equal to six football fields. In fact, the BMRC claims it is the largest Metro station in India which can, at any given time, house up to 20,000 commuters.
It is not just the isolated Metro corridors between Byappanahalli and MG Road or Nagasandra and Malleswaram that made the Metro effective in Bengaluru. With the Majestic interchange station enabling commuters to change ways in any of the four directions, travelling in the city will not just become seamless, but also faster and cheaper.
"I have been eagerly waiting for this moment. Being able to travel from Rajajinagar to MG Road by changing two trains will not just make my commute quicker, but also easy on the pocket," said Smitha Ramesh, a working professional. At present, she uses three modes of transport -from Rajajinagar to Malleswaram by Metro, then a feeder bus to Majestic station and then to MG Road by Metro again. Smitha who spends about Rs 42 per trip now, is hoping the entire journey will cost lesser after June 18, when Phase 1 will become operational.
For the scores of people travelling from south Bengaluru towards MG Road, Indiranagar or Whitefield, commuting is set to turn hassle free -all they'd need to do is crisscross at the Majestic interchange. With the Metro on track, Majestic will soon turn into a transit hub, easing Bengaluru's mobility woes to a considerable extent.
