Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to re-examine the Gurgaon-Faridabad Metro Link and come out with a viable solution for providing metro connectivity between the two cities.

Khattar was speaking at the 35th meeting of National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) here. As these cities (Gurgaon and Faridabad) are planned to be developed as Smart Cities, DMRC should re-examine the proposal and come out with a viable solution for providing metro connectivity between them, Khattar said.

He said that with a view to give further boost to Metro projects in Haryana, the matter was taken up with the government of India to provide adequate Metro connectivity between the commercial hubs of Faridabad and Gurgaon cities.

Khattar further said that the state government has already committed an investment of more than Rs 3,500 crore for the implementation of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ballabgarh and Bahadurgarh Metro line extensions from Delhi. Adequate Metro connectivity of Haryana cities falling in the NCR with Delhi is significantly contributing in decongesting NCT Delhi and generation of employment in the region, Khattar said.

While Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Metro link between Sector-21, Dwarka and IFFCO Chowk, Gurgaon has been submitted by DMRC, DPR of Metro link from Narela to Kundli in district Sonepat in Haryana is under progress, he added.

Khattar said that the total cost of Metro extension projects falling in Delhi should be borne by the government of Delhi as the Metro connectivity with sub-urban towns would significantly de-congest Delhi, which is one of the primary objectives of NCRPB.

While describing the connectivity between urban settlements as a life-line to boost urban development, Khattar said that the existing roads connecting NCT of Delhi with neighbouring NCR towns are proving to be inadequate with increasing traffic loads.

He said that the Delhi Development Authority has made a provision of 80 meters wide road in Dwarka in its Zonal Plan to connect 150 meters wide Northern Periphery Road in Gurgaon.

Similarly, 75 meters wide road link between Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Sonepat and northern Delhi has also been approved, he added.
