KEC International Ltd. and Siemens Ltd. are the only 2 bidders for the overhead electrification (OHE) contract of Mumbai Metro’s 23.6 km Line-2B (Yellow Line) after Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) opened technical bids on Friday.

This elevated line connecting DN Nagar – Mandale (Mankhurd) is a south-easterly extension of the recently inaugurated 18.6 km Line-2A (Dahisar – DN Nagar). J Kumar Infraprojects had taken over a portion of its construction work, from DN Nagar to MTNL, from Simplex Infrastructure in 2021.

MMRDA invited bids for this crucial systems contract (Package CA-40) in November 2022 with a 3 year completion deadline and Rs. 443.36 crore estimate.

Scope: Design, manufacture, supply, inst.,t and c, of 2 nos. 110 KV RSS incl. 110 KV, 33kV, 25kV cabling work, complete 25kv OCS with SWS, 33kV aux power dist. sys. incl. 33/0.415 kV ASS and complete SCADA sys. for main line and depot of MML 2B of MMRDA

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

This contract’s scope also includes work inside Mandale Depot which was re-tendered and awarded to Ahluwalia Contracts in 2020. This facility will have a double-decker structure to stable a maximum of 72 trains of 8-coaches (total 576), and come along with staff quarters, 9 inspection bays and 15 workshop lines.

Per MMRDA, 54% of civil construction work has been completed. Here’s a recent snap of it via Mid Day / Rupraj Sengupta:
