The Karnataka RERA website shows 9,260 complaints were filed with the Authority, against 1,566 promoters and 1,843 realty projects since 2017.

Reflecting the extent of pendancies with the state Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), the Karnataka government said on Monday that 3,362 such cases were before the quasi-judicial body.

The data was tabled by Housing Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan in response to a question by BJP MLA L A Ravi Subramanya during the ongoing Winter Session of the Karnataka Assembly.

Among the reasons listed for the pendency of cases was the delay exercised by respondents in submitting the statement of objections for the complaints filed, lack of full details such as addresses, and entering the wrong addresses of the respondents in the petitions filed by the complainants.

“Apart from that, 46 cases in which final orders were issued by RERA were returned to the Authority by the Appellate Tribunal,” the response by Khan read.

Moreover, based on a 2021 judgement by the Supreme Court, files of 2,500 cases were submitted to RERA over delay in compensation and releasing refunds to home buyers, according to the response.

The Karnataka RERA has held seven Lok Adalats over the past few years for the speedy disposal of cases, in which 858 cases were disposed of, the response also stated.

As per the Karnataka RERA website, 9,260 complaints were filed with the Authority since 2017, against 1,566 promoters and 1,843 realty projects. The portal also shows that relief was realised in 1,019 cases and Rs 41.17 crore was disbursed as relief.
