Income tax department officials searched the premises of Kalyani Group in the city which is into automobile and construction businesses. While Kalyani Motors is into Maruti Suzuki dealership as an authorised sales and service dealer, Kalyani Developers own large business and commercial spaces — nearly five million square feet on Bannerghatta Road, JP Nagar et al – rented out to IT-ITES majors. The group is owned by Mohan Raju. The sleuths were looking into tax evasion. Overall, eight premises were searched and 21 were surveyed.
Two BJP corporators searched
Coming close on the heels of widespread criticism that the income tax department is only “targeting” Congress politicians, the sleuths covered two BJP corporators — K Narayana Raju representing Bilekahalli and CR Ram Mohan Raju from Bommanahalli. Both are relatives and are into real estate business.
According to the assets and liabilities declaration during the 2015 BBMP polls, the SSLC educated Narayana Raju was one of the richest corporators and had declared assets worth over 152 crore.
It is not clear if Kalyani Developers and the two corporators’ have any business links considering that the group owns properties in the same localities.
