Upset over the alleged dilution of rules in the state’s Real Estate Regulation Act (RERA) draft, homebuyers in Gurgaon are planning to meet chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday.

The chief minister is to arrive in the city on Saturday to attend a summit. Titled ‘Invest Haryana- Key investment opportunities’, the event is being organised by the National Real Estate Developers’ Council (Naredco-Haryana).

“We will try our best to fix an appointment with the chief minister and hand over our memorandum seeking amendment to the RERA draft rules. We hope Naredco will allow us a meeting with the CM,” Prakhar Sahay, a homebuyer, said, adding they would seek an assurance from the chief minister that their suggestions will be incorporated in the final RERA draft before being notified.

The homebuyers are also planning to organise a massive protest in a bid to make themselves heard.

RS Rathee, president, Gurgaon Citizens’ Council (GCC), said, “All homebuyers and the associations they are affiliated to should come with us and help us organise a massive protest on Sunday.”

The homebuyers want to hold the protest before May 15, Monday, as it is the last date for Gurgaon residents to post their feedback on the RERA draft rules.

“We will join the protest as we doubt if the Haryana government will bring builders such as DLF, Suncity, Vatika, Ansal and Unitech under the RERA ambit. Though several of their projects are complete, they haven’t yet obtained the completion certificates. If the RERA rules are not brought to bear on these projects and developers, we will deprived of the benefits that the Act entitles us to,” Abhey Poonia, a resident of Suncity, said.

Distressed homebuyers were even more angry on Thursday after the official portal of the state’s town and country planning department (TCP) crashed.

“I visited the ‘feedback’ page of the TCP, but it crashed. Perhaps it was because of the sheer volume of feedback and suggestions pouring in from across the state,” Yasheesh Yadav, a homebuyer, said.

“Though the RERA draft rules make no mention of ‘feedback’, we were encouraged to post our comments after the CM tweeted that any suggestions will be welcome,” Gaurav Prakash, founder member of Dwarka Expressway Welfare Association, said.
