GURGAON: With nine tehsils, including one of the highest revenue generators (Wazirabad), the city records hundreds of property registrations every day. A shortage of online appointment tokens, long wait time, technical glitches and a limited number of revenue officers has, however, been a worry for property buyers and sellers.
In each tehsil, 100 tokens were issued every day, but the number of property registration applications was more than the available tokens, especially in Wazirabad and Badshapur. Due to this, visitors had to wait for a long time and apply again for the next available appointment.
Sanjay Khatri, who owns a property in Sushant Lok 1, said, “I had to wait for more than 15 days to get a property registered in my wife’s name. She has health issues and can’t venture out of home often. But due to a shortage of tokens, she had to visit the tehsil twice, which caused a lot of hardship.”
Now, to improve public convenience and reduce waiting time for property registration, the state government has increased the number of e-appointments tokens for Gurgaon from 100 to 300, and from 10 to 60 in case of tatkal e-appointments. Also, sub-divisional officers and district revenue officers have been given the authority to register properties, which otherwise remained only with tehsildars. The system will randomly pick and allocate appointments to them.
For other districts, the number of available e-appointments has been increased from 100 to 200, with tatkal e-appointments rising from 10 to 50. Gurgaon generates maximum revenue across the state when it comes to property registration, followed by Faridabad.
“The decision, aimed at streamlining property registration processes, will further enhance ransparency and efficiency in the property registration process, ensuring a smoother experience for citizens,” an official from the revenue department said.
Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav told TOI this was a long-pending demand of residents, as they had to wait long periods for property registration due to shortage of tokens. “At the time of launch of residential projects in particular, they faced more problems as there were many property registration cases. After the increase in tokens, the problem will be resolved and there will be no waiting period,” he said.
Yadav further said sub-registrars and joint sub-registrars have been informed about the directives for seamless implementation of the decision. “Information regarding the e-appointment services will also be prominently displayed on the notice boards within the tehsil compounds so that visitors are aware about it” he said.
Rohtash Panwar, the tehsildar of Wazirabad, said Badshapur, Kadipur and Harsaru sub-tehsils usually receive more than 150 appointment requests daily for registry. “By increasing the number of tokens, the problem of waiting here will now be eliminated. This is a good decision by the government and senior officials,” he added.
Property owners are hopeful that the swill would improve with the move, but want better amenities as well. “Increasing tokens will reduce hurdles such as waiting periods, but there is a need to improve other amenities like seating and parking facilities and waiting areas, among others. During the rains, there is waterlogging near tehsil offices, making it difficult for residents to reach there,” said Vikram Singh, who owns a property along Golf Course Road (Extension).
