The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) on Monday sealed 122 flats and 14 buildings at two localities as part of its ongoing drive against illegal constructions.

More than 500 flats and buildings have been sealed in the five days since the drive started on November 28, a day after local BJP MLA Umesh Aggarwal accused MCG commissioner TL Satyaprakash of “shielding illegal constructions in the city”.

A team of MCG officials sealed 11 buildings with 82 flats at Satguru farms and 40 flats in seven buildings at Nobel farms on the old Delhi-Gurgaon road. Another 14 buildings were sealed for illegal constructions around the area on Monday.

“On the fifth day of our drive, 122 flats were sealed on two locations on the old Delhi-Gurgaon road. The team is focussing first on irregularities in flats and then on independent houses. The administration will take stern action against any illegal constructions,” said district town planner (enforcement) Sanjeev Mann.

Deputy Commissioner TL Satyaprakash had on November 28 ordered the disconnection of electricity and water supply to illegal constructions or under-construction buildings across the district, exercising powers under prohibitory section 144 of the CrPC.

He had said residents could contact the civic body on its toll-free number (1800-180-1817) to complain about any illegal construction in the area. He said that FIR will be registered against the accused.

Aggarwal had accused Satyaprakash of not initiating action against illegal constructions and violating norms in employing 19 retired persons in the MCG.

On November 25, Aggarwal claimed to have raided Gurgaon tehsildar’s office and said he detected irregularities in land registrations. He had blamed Satyaprakash for the irregularities.

Reacting to Aggarwal’s allegations, Satyaprakash had said all provisions were followed in hiring consultants in MCG, who are generally retired state services officials, retired engineers or experts. “A resolution in the house (MCG) was passed long ago that such consultants will be taken till all posts are filled or appointed,” he had said, adding that the corporation was working only with 27% of its capacity due to shortage of manpower.
