The chaotic journey from MG Road to Delhi-Gurgaon expressway may soon become smoother and faster, especially during rush hours, with the much-awaited flyover from Guru Dronacharya metro station to Phase II rapid metro station all set to become operational by the first week of November. A senior official of Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS), the company constructing a 16-lane expressway which will connect Golf Course Road to the expressway near the now-defunct toll plaza, told TOI that 80% of the work on the flyover has been done.
"The uni-directional flyover, which starts immediately after Guru Dronacharya metro on MG Road and opens up at the sector road near Phase II rapid metro station, ultimately leading to Cybercity and NH 8, will be operational by the first week of November," project head for IL&FS, LK Makkar, said.
He added: "The time taken to travel this distance will get considerably reduced from the current 15 minutes during rush hours to less than four minutes, once this flyover becomes operational." According to him, the three-lane flyover will ease traffic coming from MG Road to the expressway.
"Traffic from MG Road to the e-way has two outlets to NH 8. One is via Sikanderpur at IFFCO Chowk and the other via the sector road along the Rapid Metro line near Phase 2 station that opens up to the expressway near Cyberhub," he explained.
Moreover, he said that the recently opened underpass at Cybercity metro station will also serve its purpose once traffic on the MG Road to DLF Cybercity stretch is streamlined via this flyover.
And, once the flyover is operational post the trial run, the streetlights will also be put up within a week after that, the project head said. "Water-logging often leads to traffic jams. Keeping this in mind, we have already arranged for proper outlets for rainwater in both the recently opened underpass at cyber city metro and even on this flyover," Makkar added.
