Exit next to Park Drive on Golf Course Road blocked

In an attempt to ease traffic movement on Golf Course Road, authorities on Monday installed concrete jersey barriers and closed an exit adjacent to Park Drive. They instead opened up exits at two other points opposite South Point Mall and Vipul Belmonte society.

The move has got mixed responses from DLF 5 residents as some felt that traffic has been streamlined on the road while others are angry that the other exits opened up are quite far.

A DLF official, on condition of anonymity, said that the changes in road design on Golf Course Road are on a trial basis to check if they offer a solution to traffic problems on the stretch.

“We are checking for the most viable traffic solutions on Golf Course Road to ensure smooth traffic flow and are experimenting with design changes. The barricading is temporary and can be removed if found ineffective,” the official said.

The official added that the exit was barricaded as merging of three-way traffic from Park Drive, Cyber City and Sector 56 at the spot led to regular traffic snarls during peak hours.

“Aside from the merger of three-way traffic at the exit, the Sector 53-54 Rapid Metro Station is also located nearby, which made crossing the stretch during peak hours a nightmare. I discovered the changes while going to work (on Monday morning) and the drive through the stretch was smooth,” said Mihir Kohli of Aralias, DLF 5.

However, residents who were unable to directly cross over to the Golf Course Road-Cyber City stretch were not so happy.

“The barricading is useless and does not serve a purpose. I have to drive nearly 800 metres one-way to take a U-turn near Vipul Belmonte to head to Cyber City. It has unnecessarily added 10 minutes to my journey,” said Meera Rai of Summit Apartments, DLF 5.
