In a strategic decision, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to commence the entire Dwarka Expressway project simultaneously in February.
Dismissing the notion that starting the Gurugram segment separately would yield no special advantages, NHAI believes true benefits will only accrue when connectivity is established in Delhi’s region, which is possible once construction in both Delhi and Gurugram is completed.
🚧 Construction Milestones:
A 3.6 km tunnel in Dwarka, connecting directly to the airport, is set to be operational by April.
Similar to the expressway, an eight-lane tunnel is under construction.
🛣️ Expressway Route:
The Dwarka Expressway construction spans from Mahipalpur in Delhi to Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Gurugram, aiming to alleviate traffic on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.
🗓️ Timeline and Phases:
The Dwarka Expressway project is divided into two phases, with the Gurugram portion expected to be operational by May.
The tunnel’s activation is scheduled two months later.
🚗 Impact on Traffic Flow:
To alleviate congestion on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, construction on the Dwarka Expressway will connect Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Gurugram. However, the real relief will be observed only when both segments are operational. Commuters eagerly await the completion, especially in the Gurugram section, which is near completion.
🌁 Traffic Management:
NHAI emphasizes that allowing traffic from the Gurugram section alone will not yield significant benefits. Therefore, it has been decided to inaugurate both Delhi and Gurugram sections simultaneously to optimize traffic flow on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.
🔜 Future Developments:
The NHAI anticipates increased traffic pressure near the Delhi border if the Gurugram section is opened first. Hence, simultaneous activation is considered crucial for the comprehensive success of the Dwarka Expressway project.
