NEW DELHI: Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station to have dedicated entry & exit points for Nizamuddin railway station and ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan. A 100m-long subway will also connect railway station and ISBT.
Connecting with Nizamuddin railway station as well as the inter-state bus terminus at Sarai Kale Khan, the Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station is going to be a major interchange point for both local commuters and those coming from outside the city.
The entry/exit point at Sarai Kale Khan will be inside the ISBT complex while the entry/exit point at Hazrat Nizamuddin will be within 50m of the station complex.
A third entry/exit will be towards Smriti Van, said Metro spokesman Anuj Dayal.
Numerous entry and exit points will also work as subways and a 100m-long facility will connect Nizamuddin railway station to ISBT.
This point (E-3) will also have pro visions for building a skywalk to connect the railway station to the Metro station and the ISBT.
According to the detailed project report (DPR), 53,370 people are expected to use the Metro station by 2016 and, by 2021, over 72,000 passengers will use it every day. Being touted as an engineering marvel by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the station, which is part of the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor, will come up 18m below ground, surrounded by a water table that is the highest in phase III because of its proximity to the Yamuna. A specialized drainage system is being built and a new construction methodology has been adopted as this underground station will always be surrounded by water.
The underground station will come between Ashram and Mayur Vihar stations. Work on the tun nel from Lajpat Nagar to Nizamuddin has already started. “The 3.366km underground stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Hazrat Nizamuddin will witness a total of six tunnel boring machine (TBM) drives that includes two drives each from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Ashram, Ashram to Vinoba Puri, and Vinoba Puri to Lajpat Nagar,“ said Dayal.
