DDA's 2016 scheme flats at better locations

New Delhi: A few days after DDA announced a housing scheme larger than the one whose draw took place in November 2014, the authority has given details about where the 40,000 flats will be located.

Several applicants to the 2014 scheme had been unhappy over the location, size and quality of the flats with less than 5% 2-3 bedroom units being available. The December 2016 scheme will addresses this issue and 9,400 2-3 bedroom flats have been planned at Narela, apart from other locations like Dwarka, Rohini and Vasant Kunj.

Those who were lucky and got LIG flats in the 2014 draw said they were disappointed with the size. They alleged that the flats meant for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category had been 'upgraded' with marbles and tiles.

Senior DDA officials said thousands of 2-3 bedroom HIG and MIG flats are being constructed with better quality materials. "The emphasis in the 2014 scheme was on providing maximum one room and one bedroom flats. However, for 2016 we are working to provide thousands of flats with two or more bedrooms and larger carpet area," said Balvinder Kumar, DDA vice-chairperson.

Kumar said a start has already been made in providing high-end luxury flats in the form of 800 studio flats that are on offer at Bakkarwala, which have been furnished with Italian marble and polished granite.

DDA's plans include constructing EWS flats with prefab technology in Dwarka, Narela and Rohini and developing high-end apartments in Jasola, Narela, Bakkarwala and Sultangarhi. Thousands of two bedroom flats are also in the pipeline in Chilla, Dwarka, Sultangarhi and Narela. Bigger, more ambitious housing schemes are coming up due to parcels of land identified by DDA through its latest survey conducted at the end of last year. Officials said they have identified 1,247 parcels totalling to 7,000 acres, several pockets of which will be has been planned to be developed as residential units.
