Noida: In a move that promises massive relief for millions of commuters, the expansion of the Noida Metro is finally moving into the fast lane.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a stern directive to officials, making it clear that any further delays in the metro extension from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden will not be tolerated.
For residents of Greater Noida and Pari Chowk, this project is the “missing link” that will finally provide a seamless journey into Delhi without the current hassle of switching lines at Sector 51 and 52.
The proposed extension will cover a distance of 11.56 kilometers. This fully elevated corridor will feature eight new stations, strategically placed to serve high-traffic areas.
Once operational, it will act as a direct bridge, allowing passengers from Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park and Pari Chowk to swap directly onto the Delhi Metro’s Blue and Magenta Lines at Botanical Garden.
During a high-level review meeting, CM Yogi emphasized that public welfare projects should never be bogged down by paperwork.
He instructed the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) to expedite all pending tenders and ensure that construction starts on schedule, noting that every day of delay causes unnecessary hardship for the common man.
The project has already cleared several major hurdles. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) received state cabinet approval in 2024, and soil testing and design consultancy tenders were issued throughout 2025. With the central government’s final nod now in place, the NMRC is moving toward the final stage of planning.
According to senior officials, civil work tenders are expected to be finalized by February 2026. If everything stays on track, heavy construction will begin by mid-2026, with the goal of opening the gates to passengers by the 2029-30 window.
For the average commuter, this new route is expected to shave off 20 to 30 minutes of daily travel time and significantly thin out the bumper-to-bumper traffic on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
Beyond just easing the daily commute, the state government views this metro line as a catalyst for economic growth.
Improved connectivity is expected to drive up real estate values along the corridor and attract new investments into Noida’s commercial sectors, potentially creating thousands of local jobs.
The Chief Minister’s review didn’t stop at the metro. He also looked at the broader picture for the region, including the upcoming semiconductor unit in the Yamuna Authority area and better road links to the Jewar International Airport.
Additionally, he suggested a plan to link local schools and colleges with existing sports stadiums to encourage a culture of fitness among the youth.
