Efforts are underway to transform Hebbal flyover, a notorious bottleneck in Bengaluru, into a multi-modal transit hub.

This initiative, known as multi-modal integration, aims to establish one suburban rail and three metro stations at the flyover.

Progress is being made on the construction of one metro and the suburban railway stations. However, one station is still awaiting approval from the central government. The fourth station is currently in the planning phase.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is constructing a station near the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation depot, located close to the junction, as part of the Metro's Blue line (ORR-Hebbal-Kempegowda International Airport).

BMRCL is also awaiting approval from the central government for the Kempapura-JP Nagar 4th Phase line, which includes a station at the flyover. Additionally, the Sarjapura-Hebbal Metro corridor, which is still in the planning stage, is expected to originate from the flyover.

As part of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, the Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited, also known as K-RIDE, has decided to construct a station at Hebbal. This station will be part of the Mallige corridor, which extends from Byappanahalli to Chikkabanavara on the eastern side of the flyover.

A multi-modal transport hub has been proposed at Hebbal flyover junction, according to RK Singh from K-RIDE (project and planning).

The state government has made this decision to integrate various modes of transport, including Metro, suburban rail, and city buses, at the junction.

All the stations will be connected by foot over-bridges, and the location of the three proposed stations has been discussed by agencies such as Directorate of Urban Land Transport, BMRCL, K-RIDE, and other stakeholders.

The Byappanahalli-Chikkabanavara suburban line is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by October 2025. The Hebbal station of the South Western Railway is already operational at the junction.

To alleviate congestion at the junction, BMRCL MD Anjum Parwez has emphasised the importance of integrating various modes of transport, 

The Bangalore Development Authority has been requested to design their road works project in a way that does not interfere with the Metro alignment. The Metro's Phase-III alignment will pass over the existing flyover towards the Yeshwantpur side, while the Sarjapur-Hebbal line will terminate at the junction.

In order to avoid acquiring a burial ground land, the BMRCL has made a slight adjustment to the alignment of its Blue Line near Hebbal. This change will ensure that the burial ground is preserved.
