Bengaluru now has the second largest operational metro network in the country after Delhi, with 69.66 km of operational metro network and 63 stations. The East-West corridor of 39.34 km and the North-South corridor of 30.32 km are the two main corridors.
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line is close to completion, with the exception of a crucial 2.5 km link between Byappanahalli and KR Puram stations that is expected to seamlessly connect Whitefield to the rest of the city.
According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the missing link will be ready within two months and would be inaugurated in June. Once the link is commissioned, it is expected that metro ridership will increase by 3.5 lakh.
According to Yeshwanth Chavan, the chief public relations officer of BMRCL, the delay in completing the Byappanahalli-KR Puram link was caused by various factors, including developmental works between the two stations, railway line crossing issues, bus depot improvement work at KR Puram, and decongestion plans by other civic agencies.
Although most of the work on completing the link has been completed, it still needs to be tested by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). Once all testing is completed, the Byappanahalli-KR Puram link will be ready for public use.
