With phase one the Noida International Airport set to open in a couple of months, here's a quick look at what's in store for flyers
The much anticipated Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh is slated to open this year, and is set to mark a new era of regional travel. Located just outside of Delhi, NIA promises to make sought after tourist destinations within the region, like Agra and Mathura closer and cheaper. Starting April, daily flights, both domestic and international, will be fully operational, along with one runway, 10 aerobridges and 25 parking stands. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Noida airport.
When will the Noida International Airport open?
Noida International Airport is opening on 17 April 2025.
Where is the new Noida International Airport located?
Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, NIA is just 700 meters from the Yamuna Expressway, making it an easy launch point for road travel. Agra, home to the Taj Mahal, will be less than two hours from the new airport, less than half the time it takes from New Delhi’s IGIA airport.
How big will it be?
The Noida International Airport is set to be built across multiple phases. The airport will debut with one terminal and one runway, handling 65 daily flights, including domestic, international, and cargo operations. When it is fully ready, the airport will have six runways and a capacity to handle over 1 lakh flights and 70 million passengers annually. That date is far away though–we’re looking at the year 2040.
Will it be cheaper to travel to Agra from Noida?
Yes. A taxi ride from NIA to Agra is expected to cost around Rs2000, significantly less than the Rs4,000 fare from Delhi’s IGI Airport.
Which destinations will be closer now?
Mathura, Vrindavan, and Aligarh will now be within a two-hour drive, making them more accessible for travellers.
Who’s flying where?
IndiGo and Akasa Air will operate from Noida International Airport, connecting major domestic cities and international hubs like Zurich, Dubai, and Singapore. The airport will initially handle 30 daily flights, including three international routes and 25 domestic connections. The domestic services will be for Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dehradun, Hubli, and other Indian cities.
When can you book tickets?
Flight bookings for Noida International Airport will open in February 2025, ahead of its April launch.
What about day trips?
The airport’s location near popular attractions like the Taj Mahal makes it ideal for day trips to North India’s cultural treasures.
Is rail connectivity part of the plan?
NIA is expected to be a key stop on the proposed Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail corridor, further enhancing its connectivity.
